Asamoah Gyan during 2010 World Cup |
Gyan, who spent the majority of last season on loan at Al-Ain, has sealed a transfer on undisclosed terms.
Al-Ain paid Sunderland £12 million with £6 million on initial pay and will play remaining transfer fee on monthly basis.
Sunderland exposed that the Ghanain refused return to Stadium of Light after loan spell at UAE.
"You wouldn't really want somebody who is unwilling to come back to the football club," he said. "It seems to be the message that's coming across."Asamoah Gyan's 22 goals for Al-Ain last season helped to secure the league title and sparked fresh interest in acquiring his signature, but the champions were always confident of retaining his services and eventually clinched the deal today.
The Wearside are looking for Gyan's replacement as Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has returned to Emirates Stadium after spend season loan with Sunderland.
